In Lake Highlands, most homes were built in the 1960s and 1970s during a housing boom, so you’ll find many detached single-family homes and bungalow styles. Lake Highlands gives residents a mix of an urban and suburban feel, where everyone has a relaxed aura while still being some of the most active residents in the city. It’s largely a family-oriented community given its educational system overflow of all-ages activities whether it’s getting out on the lake for a paddleboard or biking along White Creek Rock trail to the popular Flag Pole Hill.

Lake Highlands is burgeoning with delicious eats and inspired dining, and that starts with Fish City Grill.  It’s the perfect family-friendly restaurant, where you can dig into some of the city’s freshest seafood in taco, sandwich, or pasta form. And don’t forget to try out their signature oyster nachos for a real flavor explosion! For some authentic Tex-Mex and delicious margaritas, head on over to Mi Cocina. Start off the meal with their famed Mambo Taxi and pair it with perfectly made guacamole. 
 
Lake Highlands Town Center is like no other, where you can shop, dine, live, and play. Become the heart of Lake Highlands when you live in the modern, charming apartment complex, where you’ll have access to several eateries and the DART Light Rail. And shop at the specialty Sprouts Farmers Market where you’ll buy natural and organic ingredients. It’s the place that residents from all over commerce, whether it’s for a scone and latte, relaxing lakeside picnic, or outdoor fun with your family.

Things to Do

In Lake Highlands, an attraction that brings everyone together is Flag Pole Hill Park. There’s a large quad for picnics and skateboarding, grassy knolls for lounging with friends and family, and several annual events throughout the year, mainly the Fourth of July fireworks. It also hosts city-wide festivals, namely Oktoberfest. People from all over Dallas and its surrounding areas gather at Flag Pole Hill Park for live music, local bites and brews, and the annual King of the Hill cornhole tournament. 
 
Royal Oaks Country Club is a family-oriented club that offers several amenities and excellent service. If you’re wanting to practice your swing or are up for a friendly game of golf, get out on their world-class golf course, where the fairways are impeccable and the greens challenging. Also, be sure to check out Lake Highlands North Park, a community park with several sports courts, picnic tables, a pool, and a recreation center. In the summer months, take your kids to the public splash pad to cool off and end the day with a family BBQ.
